7th and 8th grade are awkward years.
the age where everyone's hormonally imbalanced and whether or not they realize it, trying much to hard to fit in. "oh everyone is getting vans now? obviously i need a pair. let's be like everyone else and add "frickin" to every sentence and call our friends "babe"... and she looks like she'd be part of the cool group, i should become friends with her. "
i'll admit. i was probably the definition of your cliche awkward preteen. whether i realized it or not.
but after 9th grade, and now going into 10th it seems like two new problems have come up.
first, the "i'm still trying waay to hard": the people that still have one foot stuck in that first stage. sure they're nice to you, but you can tell it's completely an act. they could care less if they ever talked to you again, and chances are they won't. they just want to make themselves look good. they don't really have an opinion towards things, just whatever will get the opposite gender interested in them. clothes, they'll wear whatever the cutest girl is wearing just because people seem to like her. or they think they are the cutest and will only wear clothes that will help them keep to that status. they strut around like they're carefree and their life is perfect. but underneath are freaking out about what everyone else is really thinking about them.
and second, "apparently unique is the new cool": so i am going to do everything i can to be the most unique person i can . i'm not confident in it but that's okay, because people think i am, and they're noticing that i've grown out of my awkward "trying to fit in" stage. it's completely not me, but i'm different now, people are noticing me, and the other unique people do it.. so i guess i should too.
i don't do well with fake people.
at all. and these are the two groups that seem to be that way. i can't stand to be around them. i like people who are truly confident and content with just being them. this might mean that they still do wear all the cliche clothes and fashions, but that's okay because it's completely who they are. and the people who are completely unique in everything they do it because that's what they truly like. it's the real them. there's nothing fake about it. they do what they want, and they aren't trying to be anyone else. they could care less what people think because they're satisfied and that's all that matters.
don't try to be unique or anyone else. if what you like is unique or like them, then you will be. if not, who cares?
just be you.
and really that's all there is to it.
very well said (:
